It’s a new year, and there is some great new music on the horizon. Today marked the release of some great new albums, and so once again, I want to know what you are listening to? What’s your current favorite? Bethel Church, the home of Jesus Culture, released a new album today entitled “The Loft Sessions” and that has been my playlist for the day. A great group of songs glorifying God in a tangible way, it doesn’t get much more encouraging than that! Also new today, our friends Starfield released a brand new album in the US called the Kingdom. So how about you fine folks? What is the album or song you can’t get enough of? Sound off in the comments!

I love having the opportunity to share new music that speaks to me with our church community! A little while back, I stumbled across the Rend Collective Experiment, a talented group of artists working together to experience and understand God. They are currently on tour with the Rock & Worship Road Show, so many of you might have already had the opportunity to see their goodness live. I wanted to share their song Faithful with you today, it’s such a beautiful declaration of who God is. I have included a youtube video below of the song, and below that you can find a link to listen to their newest album on Spotify for free. (A little bonus as well, the album version of Faithful on Spotify is a duet with David Crowder!)

Yesterday we continued our Experiencing God Series with a discussion about walking with God in His plans. We sang some great songs together, including a brand new one to our congregation called “From the Rooftops” by Kristian Stanfill. Unfortunately, it’s so new, I can’t find it for sale on Amazon or iTunes yet! If you haven’t heard any music from All Sons and Daughters, the talented combination of David Leonard and Leslie Jordan, then I am proud to introduce them to you. David is a former member of Needtobreathe, one of my favorite bands, and this new project is equally as powerful. Their first EP together, Brokenness Aside, released in 2011. Their newest EP, Reason to Sing, releases today in the United States, and it is even better than their first effort. I wanted to share the title track of this EP, Reason to Sing. Here is a video of David and Leslie performing the song live, and later in this month I will share a behind the song for this track. Worship, Prayer, and Emotion

We often talk about worship, but I’ve been thinking a lot about what that word truly means…or more specifically when and how it means. I know the idea of praising through pain isn’t a new idea, but I’ve been praying a lot lately for friends who are experiencing these huge trials that come with unimaginably heavy loads, and I’ve been struck by the way that I intercede with God as if He doesn’t feel. My prayers are always an outpouring of my hopes and desires for these people, for things to turn around and be fixed, for pain healed and trials conquered as if it is not already the desire of His heart. As I think of Jesus’ time on the earth, I am reminded that God gave His only son to this world to bear the weight of our sin. He endured pain, He felt anxious, He suffered, He wept. He is a God that feels, and a God that loves, and a God who connects with our emotions. God’s heart aches when His children are in pain. He LOVES us more than we could fathom. We feel broken and lost, and yet we still have the tendency to disconnect from Him emotionally. We cry out to God with our requests and not the emotion of our hearts. I want to be purposeful in my Worship and prayer. I want to give glory and honor to God because I can’t heal my heart, or the hearts of those around me. I want to mean the words we sing on Sunday morning, and give everything to a worthy God when I sing them. It’s a new year, a symbolic opportunity to start fresh. If you already give your utmost when you worship God, I want to join you this year. If you are like me, maybe this is your opportunity to connect with God like never before, and choose to honor Him, especially in our trials. God gave His all that you might know Him. He cares. He loves. He feels.
