Album of the Month – The Civil Wars – Barton Hollow
One of the perks of writing for a Music-centric blog is getting to find and share some great artists who people may not otherwise hear about. The Civil Wars is a collaberative project by John Paul White and Joy Williams. Joy Williams has been a part of the Contemporary Christian Music movement for a while and has garnered eleven Dove Award Nominatations throughout her career. She is also a well respected songwriter and has written songs that have become hits for a wide variety of other artists. John Paul White is a brilliant singer/songwriter out of Alabama who teamed up with Williams for the Civil Wars in 2009. They have released a live album as well as a six track EP, but they release their full length debut “Barton Hollow” Today, and it’s an incredible piece of work. The album plays like a case study on love; its hurts and joys, its ups and downs. It’s a beautiful reflection of an emotion we have all run the gamut of. I’ve been enjoying the Civil Wars’ music for a few months now and am excited to get to share this release as our February 2011 Album of the Month. The title track, Barton Hollow, seems to tell of a person seeking redemption from the sins they can’t seem to wash away. Check out the song above, and be sure to pick up the full album at one of the links below.
